Talk:THE LADLE

From Armagetron

There are a few reasons why I am inviting players to take part in this new event, with the high risk of failure...
  • I have no idea where I will be from July onwards, and I might be away from internet access, so if there is any chance of the Tronic Cup materialising, it has to manifest something palpably successful for players to feel it is possible.
  • The only reason things work socially is because of timing. There is no reason why the Tronic progression shouldn't work. The fortress setting is superb, the players skillful, the expandability through the internet a virtual potential. It is about a bunch of people getting together to have a fantastic time. Together, all of us.
  • For Z-man, Guru, Luci and the other developers to get the game to what it looks like now is a major achievement, and to offer it free to us all, is... wonderful. They deserve something back. And if this game goes global, in a big sense, where professional players emerge, it will make the news. The open-source movement will have taken a big step forwards.
  • Personally, I think the world is fucked with very little chance that we will leave it for our children in the condition we found it. The only way we can do something about it is by getting together. If we can get together for a game, then we can get together for more important reasons, using the same social mechanisms. Hence my emphasis on self-organising. I think religions have had their day. I think politicians too. The scientists and economists don't have sustainable solutions.
  • Then again, why not just argue with me while the world goes to hell: let's fight it out on the grid!

It is always easier to voice reservations or straight-forward criticisms, to destroy rather than create. It takes a lot more to construct something between us, to forge a good team, to build a community, to change the world... Forget becoming a Jedi Knight with his light-sabre -- become a Tronic Monk with your light-cycle!
