Sunday, June 19th, 2011!

General Information
About
*This is the War Sumo Tournament.
*The tournament will be held every other month starting in Feburary, 2010.
*Times and brackets are listed below.
*You will also find official settings and guidelines below.

Rules
*Each team is allowed only 3 players (and 2 subs). This is a 3v3 tournament.
*Servers will be chosen and positioned on the brackets of each month.
*Teams will be randomized then placed on the brackets of each month.
*Team editing will be locked after the brackets are up.
*To participate, all teams are required to have a minimum of three members and a maximum of five. Any more than three will only count as substitution.
*A team can switch around their substitutions whenever they feel like it. As long as there's a maximum of 3 team members on the grid at one time.
*Each player is allowed to be signed up to only one team, but may switch teams on the day of the event, if their first team is full.
*If you have played a match with a team, you are NOT allowed to join another team as you have already locked yourself with the previous team by playing with them.
*On the day of the event, team captains are allowed to replace any of their members that do not show up.
*If a team only has 2 players, the other teams captain will then decide if the other team can play or not.
*Each team has 5 minutes after the posted time to be ready or they will be forced to forfeit. If the other team is in a match from a previous round in the tournament they will have 8 minutes after the match to get their team ready and the match started.
*Be friendly and have fun.

Settings
*The WST map.
*Practically default Sumo settings, apart from the changes said, here.
*The first team to win two matches advances to the next round. (Best 2 out of 3 matches)
*First team to reach 1000 points wins a match.
*No time limits.
*Finals are best of 3 match wins as well.

Team somethingsomething

Eggcozy: /* Unavailability */

Yes, you have reached the page of Team somethingsomething, created by the mostly ambitious Lackadaisical. Basically this is a team to compete in THE SPOON, and below is a list with the people who are in it. I think its full now because already have 8 people signed up here and I already asked some people who weren't really sure if they could compete. That means that if we face off against a team with less players not everyone might be able to play. I hope everyone is good with that; I'll try to make sure everyone gets around the same playing time.

News
Update
Ok, we won the first two matchs against AW and CT. Organizing the rest is a bit tricky, it looks like we can only get a game up with MBC at 12am BST (or 11pm GMT) on the night of the 12th to 13th of April. Because I've only got a few replies on my question if anyone could play at that time during weekdays, and time was ticking I scheduled it so we could be sure of four people (me click egg maz). We need to have five, so if you are able to play please put it on the talk pages or tell me or something.

First Official Match
Our first official match in the seed round will be played against the Anarchic wanderers wednesday on the 5th of April, at 2100 GMT. I'm going to be at zmans spoon server at 20.45, I hope to see you all there (or sooner on irc) to do some pre-match discussion.

The match after this will probably be against the Crazy Tronners on friday the 7th of april at 20.30 GMT, not sure though.
Practice Session
Ok i have organised a practice session with Knights of Ni, on Saturday <del>00.00</del> <ins>24.00</ins> GMT, This is the night of saturday on sunday. The plan right now is to meet up at the #armagetronteams irc channel on freenode, if you are completely unable to go there you could go to zmans spoon server. The IRC channel is prefered though. We will probably be playing at lucifers server because i'd like you all to learn how to cope with lag. An email has been sent.

Players
* Lackadaisical (If told beforehand enough i can pretty much play anytime in the weekends)
* MaZuffer
* Pez (if you need another player count me in. can play most times with a bit of warning)
* nemostultae
* Gnorty
* click
* Pavelo (times vary, but mostly in the evening and on weekends (GMT+1); I probably wont be able to play from 12th to 22nd April, maybe if notified soon enough, but I can't promise anything :( )
* newbie
* eggcozy (my weekend on april 15-16 will be busy, I have a guest in town, but I should be able to play if the time is right)
* joda.bot

I'm not really sure how we could keep everyone updated about this, but i guess we could use the Talk page for some discussion: Talk:Team_somethingsomething. I'll probably send an email too.

Talk:Team somethingsomething

Eggcozy:

tryin the talk page out.

do you want me to set up a forum for us to use? i can just add it to existing forums i'm already an admin for on another game
Pez

----

Yeah, I've been thinking about maybe creating something of the likes, but well, theres already alot of going on on the wiki and on the armagetron forums, so it's really just another place there is to go to/register for. Although if theres enough people willing to go trough the (minor) hassle it's cool.

oh btw, it seems xevi stole ed from us, so we have two places open. If anyone knows someone who you think should join our team, i wouldn't mind if you'd ask them to sign up.

lack

----

also, only just seen the dates n if its defo the 15/16 of apr i wont be about for all of it. big night out in london on that sat and aint gona be back till sun afternoon.

pez
----
Do we have room for me???? garis
----

this is gonna be an awesome team :D

from what i've read winzones will be active and as this is a comp we should use em as everyone else will be. Also holes will feature quite a lot even tho they aren't deliberately used so much these days.

pez

----

yeah, winzones being legitimate changes the way we should play the game. I'd like to go a bit deeper on the subject (and on the use of holes) but i'm not sure if it's good to have a discussion about it where anyone can see it. So i'm thinking of a password protected shoutbox and put a link of it on the wiki.. I'll send you all another email when i get it.

Gar, it's fine you join but we are getting a bit big now, so you probably won't be able to play every game. Seeing all three teams getting big i think it might be worthwhile to form a fourth team. Oh and I saw that you were also listed for the anarchic wanderers?

Lack

----

sorry couldnt make the practise. my router died on sat afternoon and i didnt get a chance to get it sorted. all ok now tho

pez

----

The recording doesnt seem to work here...

Lack

----
Lack said:

>> we can only get a game up with MBC at 12am BST (or 11pm GMT)

would that be 'April 12, 11PM GMT' as the MBC page states ? if that true i just might be able to come.... can't tell for sure yet... will know tomorrow

pavelo

----

the 12th is no problem for me but defiantely on the 15th. i'll be about for the 16th from midday or so (when i get up and recovered from night before ;-) )

pez

----
Unless I travel for work, I should be up for the 12th. Probably can not do the 15th. Probably can do the 16th.

Wikified the whole table, should be easier to edit now, because the source code is a table, too.

The coloumns don't have a constant width anymore, but I didn't find a solution that would preserve the table structure in the source code, so I left it.

Maybe get rid of the <code>float:right;</code>, but it saves space right now. --Wrtlprnft 08:43, 6 April 2006 (CDT)

THE SPOON

2006-04-06T10:21:41Z

Eggcozy: /* Seed Round */

A bunch of players organise themselves to meet on existing servers, competing in Fortress teams, until the final team wins THE TRONIC SPOON. Feel free to add to the list under any category and please remember that all editions are constructive.

preparations
This version of tronic is a matter of organising ourselves rather than requiring any technical assistance from developers. It is about us as players. If we put in the preparation, advertise what we are doing on the forums, in clan forums too, advising people what the plan is, the day should run smoothly enough.

Discussion is currently scattered. The best place for discussion is on this page's talk page. The most common place for discussion is this forum thread.

To join in the competition, there are two levels of signup required. The first is to signup for a team. Each team manages their own signup. The second is for the team to signup for the competition. For this, a minimum of 5 teammates is required and a deadline for team signup is in place. (Note: the current deadline for team signup is a working date, there is not yet complete agreement on it)

The competition itself is intended to be self-organizing. So we are creating a framework under which this and future competitions will be able to self-organize. Because of this, the competition itself is in a state of flux. Hopefully it will be worked out in time for the games. :)

team formation
Most Armagetron players have had experience playing in teams, though because of the intensity of the game, a few players with good skills, have been intimidated out of the Fortress. One of the most important goals of the day is to develop teams. This means that players are supported by their friends and teammates, and any abuse that comes at them will be from opponents, which is kind of expected from some people. And the best way to deal with this intimidation is to gel as a team, play well, and respond by winning. So, there are a few ways of finding your teammates...

The deadline for forming a SPOON Team is March 31, 2006. When it is April 1, 2006 in all places on the globe, it will be too late to signup.

To join a team, you have to signup for the team and they have to accept you. The primary way this is handled is through the Team List. This is a general-purpose page provided for all teams to use as a signup page. Some teams prefer to put signup on their own page here on the wiki. If your team is one of them, you should make sure to link it from the Team List.

To start a new team, go to the Team List and add your team to the list. When you have 5 players, you need to add your team's name to the list on this page in order to participate in the competition.

* Team List - Specific team signup page
* finding your team - General guide to forming a team

SPOON Teams
After your team has a minimum of 5 players, to join the competition you must add your team name here.

* Knights of Ni
* mbc-clan
* ~"Xzl.Accel
* anarchic wanderers
* Team somethingsomething
* Lobster Mafia
* [Crazy Tronners]
* fe --Lucifer: Are they going to play? They have 5 teammates, but they've been a little slow to organize. I'll put them here to make sure they get in if they want.

server allocation
A server that has volunteered to host the competition needs to do several things. First, the admin needs to put their name, their server's name, and the name their server will have for the duration on the here. Each server should use a clone of CVS Fortress settings, and those settings ship with v0.2.8 of the server. While variations are probably allowed, the players will generally prefer very little variation, so if you vary too much from those settings, you will likely not get to host any actual games. You might want to set TEAM_MAX_IMBALANCE and TEAM_MAX_IMBALANCE_PERM to high values to make team organizing easier.

Second, you should put in your everytime.cfg a notice for players that you are hosting for the SPOON competition and that players not participating will be expected to leave at any time should two SPOON teams show up to play a game.

Finally, you might consider giving your admin password to SPOON players so that they can use it to ban players not participating in the competition during actual play. Note: The banning features support time limits, so banning players that join is a reasonable response. You might edit your language file to reflect this if you like. Maybe you'll get lucky and Lucifer will make a package server admins can use to set themselves up. You might also consider being there for the games yourself so you can set MAX_CLIENTS when the players have gathered to start playing.

SPOON Server List
* Z-Man's Spoon Fortress by z-man. Settings like CVS Test.

the event
The event itself is almost finalized. It will be a month-long tournament that runs April 1-30. All games must be complete for final ranking by the time it's May 1 everywhere on the globe. The tournament will be a round robin tournament.

The tournament consists of several rounds, described here:

Seed Round
In this round, each team will play each other team. A winning game earns them 1 point in the ranking, a losing game earns 0 points. There are no tie games in Armagetron.

'All Seed Games should be completed on or before April 16.'

While it's conceivable that some playoff games may proceed if it's clear the teams' brackets will not be affected by further seed games, every team must strive to play all games by April 16. Games not played that hold up progress on the playoffs will automatically be forfeited by the teams involved.

Please post results of seed matches here -> Seed Results

Playoffs
The playoffs start when the seed round is finished. Each team will have their seed points added up, then they will be ranked in order of number of wins, descending. The team with the most will play the team with the least, and so forth. Standard round robin procedures apply.

There are enough teams to push the playoffs to 3 rounds, with the third round deciding final tournament ranking. The teams playing for first and second place are also playing for the championship.

It would be nice if someone inserted a nice picture here describing how the playoffs will work

Other options
At time of writing, we're just 3 days from the start of the tournament. There is consensus on most of what is here on this page, but not for all of it. Please take this discussion to the forum thread referenced higher up on this page, and quickly. If nothing has changed by April 1, then what you see is what you get. So if you have a problem, take it to the forums and talk about it.

Game Organization
The competition is self-organizing. Teams are expected to join together and determine for themselves when to play the games. If the tournament is a round-robin tournament, every team is expected to play every other team once. So decide where you're going to meet. You can do this just by talking to the other teams during game play and then telling your own team how you'll meet.

Before the game, a minimum of 5 players from each team must arrive in the staging area they have agreed on. When the teams are ready to play, then they can go pick a server from the list and join it.

The current working deadline by which all teams must have played the games is April 16. IF THIS IS NOT MET FOR ANY REASON, all players are invited to play from 9pm GMT on 15/16th April weekend -- see FUN -- all in one day

The Games
The rules of the games themselves have yet to be determined. There is a strong push towards playing 3 matches and taking the best 2 out of 3 for each game. Other methods are here to be discussed, this area should be replaced with the final text before the tournament begins.

feasible round-period timing
How many matches will determine the winning team? Depends if we are playing a round-robbin event, if we take 8 hours, 2 hours, or a whole weekend to conduct the event.

THE SPOON

2006-04-06T10:20:48Z

Eggcozy: /* Playoffs */

* Knights of Ni
* mbc-clan
* ~"Xzl.Accel
* anarchic wanderers
* Team somethingsomething
* Lobster Mafia
* [Crazy Tronners]

These are the servers that have generously offered to host games for the SPOON.
