Armagetron Advanced is a 3D online multiplayer game modeled after the light cycle sequences from the film Tron (film). Armagetron Advanced is licensed under version 2 of the GNU GPL.

Playing the Game

Game Types

One may play:

  • Local Game: Play against the AI bots or split-screen against an opponent (see below)
  • Internet Game: Play versus people from all over the globe.
  • LAN Game: Play against people on the Local Area Network.

The game also allows split-screen play — more than one human-player on a computer. There can be up to four players on split screen mode.

Game Settings

Armagetron Advanced is a very configurable game, however you will find these settings to be most common:

  • You get points for core dumping an opponent (make him hit your trail).
  • Your cycle will accelerate if you drive closer to the trails.
  • A player wins the match when he surpasses a set score limit, the maximum number of rounds is surpassed, or has the most points when a set time limit is reached.

Game Modes

Several game modes exist:

  • Death Match, or Free-for-all: You versus everyone else.
  • Team Death Match: Cooperate with your teammates to win the match.
  • Fortress: Capture the enemy base. This game may be played with teams or death match style.
  • Pig Sty: A team death match where you try to shoot the other team's players with death zones.
  • Sumo: Stay in a zone while trying to force your opponent out.
  • Capture the Flag: Capture the opponents' flag and try to bring it back to your own zone.
  • Race: Race to the win zone at the end of the map.
  • Low/High Rubber:
    • Low: Try to destroy other cycles in your traps. You can face the wall for a little bit. You don't have much rubber. You have on average 1-3 rubber.
    • High: Try to destroy other cycles in your traps. You can face the wall for a longer time. You have on average 15 rubber.
