Fortress-For-All

What the FFA is

The Fortress-for-All tournament is a Fortress competition inspired by the Fortress Brawl, Ladle, Spoon, and "pickup" games. The idea is to get players who don't always have the opportunity or the will to play in the Ladle to experience the intensity and excitement that comes along with it. Frequently, in the Ladle, a team will sign up with well over 6 players (the minimum required to have a team) and only 6-7 of those players actually get to play. The others are forced to spectate with stars in their eyes wondering when they'll be able to play on the big stage. Well, that's what the point of this tournament is. Anyone, whether you have a clan/Ladle team or not, is encouraged to participate in this tournament. There are *NO* previous requirements to sign up.

How it works

Anyone who wants to play is more than welcome to sign up. There are going to be 72 initial spots to sign up. This will equate to 12 teams of 6 players each. Once the allotted 72 spots are filled up, there are to be a remaining 12 spots to sign up listed under "Substitutes". If for any reason a player chooses to withdraw themselves from the tournament, the first signed up substitute will be bumped up into the Players list. This will allow a new substitute to sign up at the bottom of the list.

*Read Carefully* In addition to signing up as a Player, 12 people need to sign up as a Captain. Anyone who wishes to be a captain may nominate themselves, but please - be very knowledgeable about fort and willing to put in the effort of organizing your team to it's highest capabilities.

The Captains are going to meet in the IRC chat room #armagetron.tourneys the Saturday before the FFA to "draft" teams pickup-style. What this means: The 12 Captains will take turns choosing from the pool of 60 players. A random draft order will be assigned to the Captains ranging from 1 to 12, and the picks will go 1-12 | 12-1 | 1-12 ETC. If a captain fails to show up to the drafting of players, a new player will be asked to step up and the captain will be placed in the "players" pool.

After the initial 72 players are divided into 12 teams on IRC, the captains will choose from the remaining 12 Substitutes to bring their team to 7 members. The teams will then be posted on the wiki page and practice/preparation amongst teams may begin.

On game day, captains and players will be expected to show up about 30-45 minutes prior to the opening round. Captains need to ensure all players are able to play for the duration of the tournament. Anyone that is missing/cannot play can then be replaced by their designated substitute, and any additional substitutes needed can be gathered from the forums/tron community. If a player is LATE for their game, but shows up in time for the first round, they are entitled to their starting spot on the team back. If a player shows up AFTER the first round is over, and their team has advanced into the second round of the tournament, that player does NOT have the full rights to take his/her spot back. (If a team has a first round bye, and they begin playing the second round, that counts as the second round for that team and any late players may not take their spot back forcefully) The late player must ask the substitute(s) if he/she can play, and must be willing to accept "NO" as an answer. In the event that a Captain is late, a new player from that team will be asked to step up and fill in the role as captain, as well as find an additional substitute. If the Captain shows up in the first round, or before the second round, he/she may take their spot back and the players will be shifted back into their original roles with any extra substitutes being asked to sit out. If a Captain shows up after the first round is over, he/she does not have full rights to take their spot back and must ask a substitute if they are willing to switch out and allow the captain to play.

Teams will play a set of 3 Matches per round (just like the Ladle) with the winning team being the first one to win 2 matches against their opponent. The tournament will use the current Ladle server rules, and it will have a custom authorities list. With enough participation, it will be a monthly tournament held on the third Sunday of each month. The server selection (US/EU) will be the same as the current month's Ladle (May Ladle - May FFA).

Signing Up

Please post your Armagetron name below. If you're confused on how to do so, look at the example below. If you would like to nominate yourself as a captain, you may sign up in the designated area below regular signups. Just because you sign up doesn't guarantee that you will be a captain, it merely indicates that you are willing to do so. Captains will be chosen at my discretion based on who I believe is most fit to organize a team. *Note: You must sign up in BOTH "Players" and "Captain" section if you wish to be a captain. You cannot be a captain if you aren't one of the first 72 players to sign up.
