How about a tournament every month, how about on the first Sunday of every month? The next Tronic Ladle Final is at 9pm GMT on Sunday 1st September 2006 (US: 5pm EDT, 3pm MDT, 4pm CDT, UK: 10pm BST, DE: 23:00 CEST)—stick it in your diaries now!

It will all be played out over a few hours, so plenty of excitement as well as a climax -- perhaps your name will be listed on the next [[Ladle Winners|Tronic Ladle]]!

The primary objective the The Ladle is to increase the size of the competition, hoping to host an event with over 100 players. In order to reach that number of players, we need something like a marketing strategy. Is it through word of mouth... through advertising.. can players encourage others to join by posting invitations in other game forums? At the root of it all, however, is the game itself. It is essential that the first experience a player has of the game is a pleasurable one, and hence some thought must be paid to how new players are treated. Inviting new players onto teams, informing them of the Ladle, may provide the right support for them to have fun and develop as players, and thereby increase the level of competition globally. We need new players! Some players have taken it upon themselves to start up new teams, recruiting noobs, training them up, and hopefully presenting a team that might win the much-sought-after Tronic Ladle!

Preparations

As part of the (TRONICv1.3) progression, we are experimenting with different ways of self-organising ourselves as players. Based on Ladle Feedback, the event is designed to get bigger and bigger with minimal structural alteration. Please consider this when participating as a player and contributing to the organisation of this event... one day we may realise THE CUP.

After three Ladles, the wiki has been revised and a simplified procedure has been outlined for the Fourth Tronic Ladle. There are two stages in preparation: first establishing your team and electing a trusted team-captain (Stage 1), then the team-captain jostles for position on the play-offs (Stage 2).

Preparation on The Day

There's still a lot to do before the players port onto the grid and the games begin. Admin will prepare the brackets for the event so everyone should have some idea of who they are to play and where. There are a further two stages of preparation: first, the teams assemble well in advance of the first game (Stage 3), then the Team-Captains meet, register their teams, finalise any last-minute alterations, and confirm readiness for play (Stage 4).

The Games Begin!

Upto 128 players, 16 teams, playing on up to 8 servers... all to be played within a few hours... only with the previous days and weeks of preparation, and all the players knowing what they should do, can this event be pulled off.

There are two stages that cycle: first, the teams assemble at the appropriate server and play their game (Stage 5), then the Team-Captains meet to inform the other Team-Captains of the results, decide any last-minute alterations, and confirm readiness to play the next round (Stage 6). These cycle until the final, when the only alteration might be for the Finalists to play the best of 5, but this is decided upon by the Team-Captains.

Hence, to play the entire competition in 3 hours, we use a round of 3/4 hour: about half an hour for the game, and some time for players to take a break and for Team-Captains to do their admin. Brackets are updated with results, and players can begin to post their experiences of the games. The intended time-scales are:

6.45pm GMT
first round, 16 teams playing on 8 servers simultaneously
7.30pm GMT
quarter-finals, 8 teams playing on 4 servers simultaneously
8.15pm GMT
semi-finals, 4 teams on 2 servers
9pm GMT
finals, 2 teams play the best of five matches...

It might be nice to have a facility for the final to be mirrored off other servers so that everyone can witness the final, cheer etc... Just adds to the fun and makes the final more exciting since all the players will know they are being watched by players they put out the competition... Congratulating the winners, post-game chat, etc, is very important and should not be overlooked (Stage 7).
